Craig’s Hut and Walk

Clear Hills Track Mount Buller Victoria

Craig's hut and walk are a piece of Australian film history, offering unrivalled panoramic views of the High Country.

Arguably the state's most iconic High Country hut, Craig's Hut sits on the top of Mount Stirling offering views over Mt Buller and surrounding mountains. The hut was originally built in 1982 as the set for the film The Man from Snowy River. It was destroyed by fire in 2006 but rebuilt 2 years later. Set on a grassy knoll surrounded by snow gums, this scenic picnic spot offers limitless photo opportunities.

Access the hut and these magnificent views either directly by four wheel drive or via a 1.2 kilometre walking track from Circuit Road Picnic Area, 1 kilometre before the Craig's Hut turn-off. Drive, horse-ride, mountain-bike or hike - no matter how you get to the hut, make sure to pack a picnic and enjoy one of the most photographed locations in the region.

Visitors with two-wheel drive vehicles can still access Craig's Hut via the walking track. Access by vehicle to Craig's Hut walk is subject to a seasonal road closure during the winter period.

Closure dates are Thursday after Kings Birthday (June) to Thursday before Melbourne Cup (October) inclusive.
